Bob Weir, who co-founded The Grateful Dead after they first met in 1963, died on Saturday surrounded by family. He had been diagnosed with cancer this past July and fought a good fight but unfortunately he was unable to overcome lung issues.

After changing their name to The Grateful Dead, the band went from being a jug band to one incorporated a mixture of Blues, Country and jams that they learned from Jazz to make such a unique sound that inspired one of the largest and devoted followings in the history of music.
