One of the founding members of The Grateful Dead has died at age 84. Currently his family has requested privacy, so the cause of death is unknown.

Phil has had some heath issues for some time. He survived both prostate and bladder cancer in addition to having a liver transplant.

When Jerry Garcia first formed The Grateful Dead in 1965, his first choice for a bass player was Phil Lesh. He remained as the band’s bass player and singer until the group broke up. After the Dead breakup following Garcia’s death, Phil only took part in a 2009 tour and the “Fare Thee Well” tour in 2015.
