English rock band The Zombies have canceled most of their upcoming performances following founder and keyboardist Rod Argent’s stroke, which has prompted his immediate retirement from touring, the band announced.

Argent, aged 79, suffered the stroke shortly after a weekend in London celebrating his birthday and 52nd wedding anniversary.

He was hospitalized briefly and discharged the next day.

Doctors have recommended several months of rest and recuperation, leading to his decision to retire from touring for the sake of his health, The Zombies said in a statement.
